The poor guy had the look of a deer in headlights, he started stammerring about how he did not know anything about babies.
Him - I do not know what to do with her?
Me - Hold her until they get here?
Him - I do not know how to hold her. What if she starts crying or needs to be changed?
Me - Holding her is the easy part. If she starts crying, walk with her or talk to her. I have just changed her and she will be fine until I get back. I take it your have had infant placements before?
Him - I have worked with older children and feel more comfortable with the children in juvenile detention centers than this. Are you sure you cannot stay?
Me - She will be a good learning experience for you. Believe me, your first baby could have been a really fussy or cranky baby, so you have lucked out. You both will be fine and you cannot break her. Sorry I have already made plans with my other children. If you need me or something happens call me on my cell phone.
He had me program my cell number into his cell after showing him how to hold the baby. It was really to funny:)

When I came back, the caseworker had a smile on his face (first I had ever seen). I said, “So, I guess she did not eat you, and you have seemed to survive your first baby.” He said, “Thanks, Lanette it was not so bad.” This was the start of our working relationship. I had learned he was not cold but unsure of himself and out of his elements with the baby. Every time he saw the baby he would talk to her and hold her, what a change.
