Categories: Different Hats Of a Foster Parent, Being An Advocate, Court
This was a nerve racking ordeal, mainly because I did not know what to expect. I got to court early and sat in on the case before my foster daughter’s case, to give me an idea what to expect. I was not prepared in any way to what would be asked of me or what would happen.

I have been asked what part people play in the testifying in court. I have also been asked if the case aide worker will testify. I will try and explain little of the process.

Testifying for the State will be: the investigator (CPS), caseworker, case aide worker anybody else that is involved with this case through CPS, psychologist, doctors, foster parents, etc.

Case aide worker will testify a lot because they had observed most of the interaction with the child and the bio parents. They also observe the parents interaction with each. You probably want believe the things that happen at the visits, and what information you learn at the visits. Most visits are weekly, so you will develop a relationship with the bio parents. You as the foster parent can also have the same experiences as the case aide, if you do the visits with your foster child.

With the foster parent it will depend on how involved you have personally become with the bio parents during visits. You will testify about the child's developments, medical issues, how they have adjusted to foster care, how the child was when they first came into foster care, etc.

Continued................... ( Next I will talk about my personal experience with testifying for my foster child.)
