You as the foster parent are entitled to so many days (a month or a year, depending on your agency) for respite care for your foster children. Respite care is for Foster children in care when the Foster parent needs a break or something comes up in their lives. Some Foster parents do not need respite care. There are children that are foster children in care that will need respite care expressly if you work with therapeutic children or children with severe behaviors or emotional needs. These children can be very draining to you personally, your family and your way of life. There may be times that you have severe problems between a foster child, one of your children or another foster child and you may have to use respite care. Respite can be a very good and useful tool for foster parents.
I personally have not had great luck with the respite care from my agency. Also, when I foster young children, I like them to stay with my own children if they had to stay somewhere. With respite care your children cannot stay.

I have used respite care providers from my agency, but it doesn't always work best for me. I have experienced that respite care providers charge me double what I get paid from the state for these children. I do not make money off of foster care but I do not like to go extremely in the negative either. ( Yes, say what you want. I have my own children that I have to provide for,. and I don't think it's fair to take things away from them.) So I would like to share how I do respite care for the large part. You can use day cares and even home day care providers that are registered with the state.
