With this being
National Adoption Month in the hopes to have more foster children find adoptive homes I will be doing a few posts on adoption. While there are a number of images of foster children waiting to be adopted and hard struggles that adoptive parents face with adopting foster children for the most part of the images are negative. The truth is that a lot of the foster children waiting to be adopted do have serious issues from medical condition, behaviors, and serious mental issues, mentally retarded, and developmentally delayed. Any of these things can make parenting an adopted foster child difficult but for the most part doable.
Foster children have different degrees of challenges and struggles that can be difficult when parenting them. I do know some foster children that have been adopted that did not nor do they now have challenges and struggles.

When people learn that I have adopted through foster care always seem quite surprised. I guess for a number of reasons it is a lot to do with the image that is out there about foster children. Foster children that are adopted are just like any other adoptee and have the chance to have a life while learning to heal from their past life or to cope with the challenges they face.
I am parenting 2 adopted, 1 foster (
November 17, will be adopted) and 1 biological, they are all so different and bring so much to the family. Honestly my biological daughter has her own set of challenges that makes parenting her at times not so easy. Then again parenting is not always easy and it does not matter if adopted or not.
The truth is that I do not know one adoptive parent that adopted through foster care that regrets adopting a foster child. Even with the more challenging children their adoptive parents are still glad to have them in their lives. Yes, there may be times that you think you are in over your head but then something happens to remind you that it is all worth it.
