Massage "Therapy"

Jessica has told us that she wants to be a massage therapist or a marine biologist when she grows up. It appeared that she had changed her mind about the massage therapist thing though. Yesterday, as we were going to Girl Scouts, after having picked her up from school, she said that she no longer wanted to be a massage therapist.

She still wanted to do massage, just not the therapy. Since, as she put it, "who wants to have to listen to other people's problems?"

I held it together, as I usually do, and said back to Jessica, "yeah, but without the therapy part, you won't make as much money", as seriously as I could at the time. She was so focused on not doing the therapy that she didn't notice that I was kidding. And she responded with, "So how much do you think you would make without the therapy?"

Ronni, my wife, burst out laughing about this time, as she couldn't hold it in any longer. This, of course, sent me over the edge, and we both couldn't stop laughing. As I took off my sunglasses a few times to clear the tears of joy, Ronni explained to Jessica that it was a different kind of therapy that they were talking about in massage therapy, not the talking about your problems kind of therapy that she is used to.

After we dropped Jessica off at her Girl Scout meeting, Ronni and I continued to talk about what Jessica had said, and continued to laugh. Jessica says things like this all the time, and I think it's because she doesn't know how to be a kid. She acts so much older most of the time, due to her having to take care of herself at such an early age, that you forget that she is a kid sometimes.

So when she says these things, as she is finally acting like a kid, it throws us off. The kid on Two and a Half Men (we're just too lazy to change the channel) reminds us a lot of Jessica, and he is playing an 11 year-old. Maybe it's just an age thing, and all 11 year-olds are that funny. Come to think of it, her friends are funny too...

I broke into a fit of the giggles when I read this. As I said on one of my recent "light" posts "let's have a party and put the fun back into adoptive parenting! Woo-hoo!!" Well, this one certainly did it for me today. Thanks.
