Are you looking to get your older foster children involved in something during the summer. Hopefully you will find something that your foster children will be interested in doing so they will actually want to be involved. If they do not enjoy the activity it may turn in to a bigger headache for you than being helpful.
Some of the same activities that are listed for the younger children may also be of interest to the older children.
- If your foster children have an interest in animals (interest not meaning they want to harm them) then there are a number of different ways for them to explore their interest, animal shelters, pet boarding, stables, etc. Horse rescue are always in the need of help in caring for the horses. Some zoos have an intern program for teens to learn about different animals and how to care for them.
- Sporting camps can be a great way for a child to learn a new sport and they can gain many skills discipline, sportsmanship, team work, etc.

- Art museums set up art or painting classes for children and teens. Some of these can be very pricey but talk to the director about possible scholarship for foster children.
- If your foster child enjoys drama or the theater, he or she could volunteer to gain some experience at a local theater.
- Some cities have local science centers that have nature trails, wildlife, and special events that would be great if you have a foster child that enjoys science.
- Colleges also have classes for teens that can involve anything you can think of (crime scene investigation, space, math, fossils, plant life, music and this just names a few).
A lot of these places have scholarships to cover the cost, so be sure and ask about them or discounts for foster children.
Volunteering for foster children can teach them so much about themselves and others. It can be as easy as doing yard work for an elder person or helping at a food pantry.
