Foster children aging out of the system and getting ready to transition out of foster care are in need of help. They need to be taught how to become independent adults that can provide for themselves. We hear too often how foster children that age out of the system, end back in the system of foster care as parents. It is up to us to provide these young people with the skills to be successful in life and to discontinue the cycle from their bio parents.
Young people need to learn how to be successful at a job. They have to learn how to work out conflicts, to get along with other employees, how to take direction from a boss, the importance of being on time, and so much more.
Bills are something these children have not been exposed to, so they need guidance and someone to teach responsibility of bills. When they have lived where the state has told them to for a number years, the knowledge of finding a place to live is foreign to them. They need help in learning to transition into living independent without being thrown out to sink or swim with no lessons.
There are so many things that they need guidance in learning to live independently. They need to gain the knowledge of shopping on a budget, cooking, washing laundry, looking at their options to continue their education, buying a car, providing healthcare for themselves, and these are just a few things.
