Foster Care Public or Private
Can going from public to private be the”fix all” for the foster care system? How can it be? The same problems remain that have left the system crippling along. Everything remains the same and will just carry over while the people change places.
Some states have already moved towards or have gone to private agencies shouldering the responsibility of the foster care. In states that have gone to private care, there are still the same problems with new additional ones added to it. It has become harder for some foster families to find services (doctors, therapies, etc) for the foster children they are caring for. Some people think that the system is in more shambles with private foster care. How can it not be getting worse when the problems are still there? The state has been playing this foster care game for sometime. You cannot expect the private agencies to come in and start playing the game without the experience of the game or knowing how to play.

Does the state want the foster care system to disintegrate while someone else is holding the bag so to speak? The foster care system has been in a downward spiral for some time with some very complex problems. I wonder if the best choice is to hand off a land mine waiting to go off to agencies that may be unprepared to even begin to deal with the problems left behind.
I would think that the foster care system could at least be able to identify 10 – 15 critical areas that need to be looked at and improved. Surely it cannot be so hard for a few educated adults to come up with a game plan to start addressing the identified critical areas. The system is not going to fix itself.
Can the foster care system going private be a benefit? Will the problems be addressed or just passed along? Is there a positive to foster care going to the private sector?
