Adult Foster Care: Delays, Mentally Retarded has been covered and now the last type of adult care.

Providing care for an elderly person is also part of adult foster care. This time of care is more like assisted living. This part of care does not include people that should be in a nursing home and that requires major care or health issues.

This is not as common in my area, so you do not hear a lot about this type of care. My uncle was placed in this type of care years ago. At that point, it was still fairly new and people did not understand it. My uncle did not like living in adult foster care. He felt like an outsider in someone’s house. The residents had to sit a few hours in their room every day at a set time. I think this was to allow the lady to spend time with her children when they came home from school.

You will need to help them with their personal care and some daily tasks. If one of the adults needs minor nursing care, a nurse can come in on a regular basis to assist with the care that is required. They will need some supervision but not to the point of the other type of adult care. This care also requires a long term commitment from your family.

There are a number of requirements (below) that will stay the same (the details may differ some) with any foster care.

Training in the area you foster.

Background checks

Fire Inspection

Home Study

Environmental or Health Inspection

CPR

Home visits by caseworkers

There will be a lot of paperwork involved with adult fostering and some of the some headaches that foster care of children deals with. The pay scale is set by the state and the different levels of care of each indivialual will set the amount you will receive for that person.
