A 21 month old baby girl named, Hailey lay dying a slow horrible death in her on home while her mother and mom’s boyfriend were at the residence. Hailey spent 5 hours in what must have been horrible pain dying slowly. This baby girl, not even two years old lay foaming at the mouth, wheezing while fighting to breath. Should Foster Parents Bond With Their Foster Children?

Posted by : Lanette in Foster Care Blog at 08:16 pm , 408 words, 1105 views
Categories: Issues, Bonding & Attachments

For some this can seem like a silly question, but the truth is that people have different views on this. For the foster parents it is a natural thing to bond and build a relationship with their foster children. It is natural to feel a deeper bond with some foster children than others.

A few caseworkers are concerned or do not want bonds to develop between the foster parents and children. I personally have dealt with one such caseworker. She viewed foster parenting as baby sitting which it is far from that. I do not believe foster children should be forced or pushed into bonding, or having a relationship with their foster parents.

It is natural for foster children to want... more

Foster Care Public or Private

Can going from public to private be the”fix all” for the foster care system? How can it be? The same problems remain that have left the system crippling along. Everything remains the same and will just carry over while the people change places.

Some states have already moved towards or have gone to private agencies shouldering the responsibility of the foster care. In states that have gone to private care, there are... more

Foster Care Public or Private

Categories: The System, Reform - Change

A number of states are looking at, or have gone to private foster care as one part to reform the foster care system. Some states have been going back and forth on what would be best. Some people view this as a way out for the state instead of fixing the problems they just pass the responsibility to someone else.

The foster care system has been placed into shambles by the state and now they are searching for a way out without fixing the problems. People are all over the board on what they think of foster care remaining public or going private.

Foster Parents Are Not the Problem

Categories: The Questions

I will be addressing statements (below is the first one) that have been left in comments on a few of my blogs.

"foster parent" goodie, two-shoe roles as the "resucer", the "if it wasn't for me", or "I saved you from the abuse of your parent(s)", attention seeking, control needing, "look at me", requiring people in this sad world

It's all about "ME", meaning, the person, that gets what he/she wants. In this case, becoming, "recusers", for poor little amy or john. You all are just as selfish as a parent that do not get their... more

Foster Children Being Removed

Categories: The Questions

I will be addressing statements (below is the first one) that have been left in comments on a few of my blogs.

“Always know some parent(s) want their children, at birth, and before and after being kidnapped by the state for their "power seeking, memorable souls".”

Foster children are not removed from their biological parents on a whim. Caseworkers are not driving around trolling the streets looking for children to place into foster care to keep their job and to fill up foster homes. Complaints are made by anyone... more

The Forgotten Foster Children

Adoption through foster care can be time consuming and workers seem unprepared. There is not someone to guide an adoptive parent through the process and tell them what kinds of questions to ask or how to receive services such as college paid for, full medical coverage, and monthly subsidies. Making the public aware of these services could open a lot of doors so that older foster children could be adopted. It can be overwhelming to a... more

Categories: Older Children in Foster Care

Older foster children are being abandoned by society and the foster care system. Their parental rights are being terminated and then being left orphans to age out of foster care. There are some very damaged foster teens that are facing severe struggles in their daily lives which can be difficult to parent. Then there are foster teens and older children that do not have major issues and could quite easily fit into a family if given a chance at adoption. We have to remember not all foster children have major behaviors, disorders, and need the seasoned parents.... more

Family Reunification Over What is Best For The Children?

A two year old toddler of a 17 year old mother was placed into foster care as an infant. The mother left the child to be cared for by a paternal grandmother. The grandmother would go out drinking leaving the baby in the care of other relatives. The baby went into another family placement briefly which also did not work out. After all of that, the infant was placed into foster care.

He was placed into... more
