A Missing Foster Toddler

A missing toddler from Florida’s foster care system was found safe in Wisconsin. The toddler was missing for four months before it was reported by a caseworker. The toddler was given to a foster mother in September ten days later, the biological mother reportedly took the toddler. At this point, it seems unclear how this toddler fell through the cracks.

Foster children are being sent back to abusive homes every day. Some will live their entire childhood being abused while others end up dead. Is this protecting children? Sex-offender Parental Rights?

Does a convicted sex offender deserve the right to parent his child in foster care? Would it have an impact if the victim was an underaged or developmentally delayed person? Should this have an impact on whether a parent can get their child back from being in foster care?

Not all Biological Parents Deserve Additional Help

Another choice for the biological parents is not to take responsibility for their actions. Everyone else is to blame for them losing their children. If they cannot accept responsibility, then they cannot get help with their problems and learn how to parent their children appropriately.

These are the biological parents that do not put their children first. They deny or make excuses for the abuse to their children. Keeping up with and going to their children’s visits is not an important commitment. If they do show up for the visits, the time is spent fighting with each other, talking on a cell phone, and going on about how wrong they have been treated.

Biological Parents Needing Additional Help

It is so easy to say that biological parents that have children in foster care deserve extra help to get their children back. When the reality is that it is not that cut and dry. Most foster parents support family reunification when it is in the best interest of the children. Remember, the foster parents are the ones that deal with the trauma and pain that the abuse has caused these children. We see the damage first-hand that these biological parents have caused their children and the lasting impact on the children.
